Research Note #06
Stop Talking About Yourself
Let's play a quick game. Which is more interesting: 'We've been providing innovative business solutions since 2008' or 'We help manufacturers reduce admin time by up to 40%'? The second one works because it answers the question visitors are actually asking: 'Can you help me?'
The Homepage Trap
A lot of websites accidentally turn their homepage into an autobiography. They talk about their history, their values, their journey, their passion. Meanwhile, the visitor is still trying to figure out whether they're in the right place.
That's like introducing yourself at a party by reading out your CV. Technically accurate. Slightly awkward.
A Better Approach
Instead of leading with information about your business, lead with information about your customer's problem.
Instead of: 'We've been providing innovative solutions since 2008.'
Try: 'We help manufacturers reduce admin time by up to 40%.'
Practical Takeaway
Rewrite your homepage headline to focus on the result your customers get, not what you do. If the headline makes sense without mentioning your business at all, you're on the right track.
